ACP Magazines, the publisher of the Qantas in-flight magazine The Australian Way, worked with Qantas to seek a solution providing qantas.com visitors with travel related content to augment the travel booking and planning functionality that has already made qantas.com Australia’s most popular online travel destination. This led to the engagement of software developers, Simbient, to implement the technical solution for Travel Insider, a whole new section in qantas.com dedicated to featuring content relating to travel, accommodation, shopping and food. The result is an online showcase for the superb editorial information previously only available in the Qantas Australian Way magazine. There’s also exclusive online-only content from professional travel journalists whose contributions are sent in from all over the globe. Members of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program can even have their say and share their opinions and experiences by commenting on articles and blogs. Travel Insider also provides visitors to qantas.com with a sophisticated search facility connecting them with information specific to dozens of countries and cities. These searches can then be further refined by classifications such as Accommodation, Food & Drink and Shopping. The editorial content is supplemented with Google Maps integrations, image galleries and video. Visitors can also subscribe to RSS feeds to stay up to date as new content is posted. Simbient worked in conjunction with ACP Magazines, to produce Travel Insider. The site was developed using Simbient’s own Microsoft .NET based Content Management System. Qantas’s vision for a leading edge and sophisticated travel site was successfully launched on time and exceeded all expectations.
